They prevent electrical feedback and protect both vehicles’ electronics. Roadmaster offers both traditional and Smart Diodes, which are designed specifically for vehicles with variable voltage but can be used on all vehicles. Bulbs and sockets bypass the towed vehicle's electrical system but require drilling a hole in your sealed taillight assembly and some taillights are too small to accommodate them. SMART DIODES Many newer vehicles now use a multiplex wiring system, whereby multiple electrical signals may be sent down a single wire (brake and taillights, for example). Traditional diodes will not work with these variable voltage vehicles. Smart Diodes correctly modulate the voltage to activate only the intended circuit. The result is vehicle lighting that looks and functions as intended.
